WPEDS Double Speed Cast Iron Worm Reducer — Product Overview

Single-stage worm reducers achieve ratios up to 1/60. When applications demand 1/200, 1/500, or 1/900 — solar trackers, valve actuators, slow-speed conveyors, and positioning drives — a second worm stage is the engineering answer. The WPEDS places two matched worm stages in tandem in a single cast iron housing, delivering ratios from 1/200 to over 1/900 in one compact, foot-mount unit with no intermediate shafting, no external coupling between stages, and no additional mounting frame.

IEC motor flange at the S-type overhead position enables direct motor mounting above the dual-stage housing. No adaptor … The dual-stage architecture uses matched tin-bronze worm wheels and 20CrMnTi worm shafts at both stages, providing consistent mesh quality and noise performance across the full ultra-high ratio range.

WPEDS Double Speed Worm Reducer — Core Features

■ S-Type IEC Flange Overhead + Double Stage — Maximum Ratio from Direct Motor

IEC motor flange at the S-type overhead position enables direct motor mounting above the dual-stage housing. No adaptor plate between motor and first stage, no lateral motor projection — the most compact motorised ultra-high-ratio drive in the WPE series.

■ D-Split Housing — Dual-Stage Maintenance Access in Position

Top cover removes with motor mounted overhead and driven shaft connected. Both worm stage chambers accessible in-situ — no unit removal required for planned maintenance intervals.

■ Output Torque to 9,066 Nm — Same as WPEDA

WPEDS worm gear internals are identical to WPEDA. S-type IEC input direction does not reduce the dual-stage torque capacity — size 155–250 delivers up to 9,066 Nm.

■ Most Compact Overhead Motorised Ultra-High-Ratio Drive

Combining overhead IEC motor (S-type), split maintenance access (D-type), and two-stage extreme ratio in one housing achieves the minimum possible installed height and lateral width for a motorised reducer at ratios above 1/200.

■ Dual Independent Oil Chambers

Both gear stage chambers are independently sealed, independently filled, and independently drained. Separate oil condition monitoring per stage simplifies planned maintenance in long-interval applications such as solar and infrastructure drives.

■ FC20+ Dual-Chamber Housing — 20+ Year Service Life Capability

FC20+ cast iron dual-chamber housing maintains inter-stage alignment and dimensional stability across the extended service intervals required by infrastructure, renewable energy, and industrial automation applications.

WPEDS Worm Reducer — Industry Applications

WPEDS double speed worm reducer ultra-high ratio industrial applications

☀ Overhead-Motor Solar Tracker + Maintenance Access

WPEDS combines overhead IEC motor (eliminating lateral drive projection on tracker frames) with D-split maintenance access — critical for solar installations where periodic inspection must occur in-situ on the mounting structure.

⚒ Compact Valve Actuator Drives with Service Access

In valve actuator applications where both minimal lateral projection and in-situ periodic inspection are required, WPEDS is the appropriate WPED series choice — overhead motor, extreme ratio, in-situ worm wheel access.

⚙ Automated Gate & Dam Sluice Drives

WPEDS motorised overhead configuration suits gate and sluice drives where the motor must be above the water level and periodic drive inspection must occur without removing the unit from the water control structure.

⚊ Industrial Automation Positioning Drives

High-ratio positioning drives for large rotary tables, industrial gantries, and automated handling systems benefit from WPEDS overhead IEC motor and in-situ split cover access for precision gear mesh inspection.

Ever Power Manufacturing Quality — WPE Double Speed Worm Reducer

Ever Power double speed worm reducer dual-stage manufacturing

■ ISO 9001:2000 Certified — Dual-Stage Assembly

Every WPE double speed unit undergoes ISO 9001:2000 quality management at both worm stage assembly levels. Inter-stage alignment and combined ratio accuracy are verified before final assembly.

■ CE Marking — EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC

Full CE compliance for mechanical power transmission equipment supports export to EU, UK, Australian, and New Zealand markets without re-certification.

■ Pre-Shipment Testing: Noise, Leak, Torque

Noise below 68 dB(A) at rated load, 30-minute pressurisation leak test on both gear chambers, and output torque within ±5% of rated. Non-conforming units reworked before shipment.

■ FC20+ Material Certification — Both Housings

Both the primary and secondary worm housings are verified by FC20 mill certificates: minimum 220 MPa tensile strength, 160–200 HB hardness. Ultrasonic defect testing on size combinations 135–200 and above.

Frequently Asked Questions — WPEDS Double Speed Worm Reducer

▶ How does WPEDS differ from WPES?
The WPES uses a solid S-type input shaft requiring a motor coupling. The WPEDS replaces this with an S-type IEC motor flange — motor bolts directly on overhead without coupling or adaptor. WPEDS also adds D-type split housing for in-situ maintenance access. Both have the same ratio range and torque ratings.
▶ Can the WPEDS top cover be removed with the overhead motor in position?
Yes. The D-split line is designed to be accessible from below when the unit is in its installed position with the motor overhead. The housing cover bolts are accessible from the side, and the cover is removed downward — the motor flange joint is above the split line and remains undisturbed.
▶ What is the combined maximum output torque from the WPEDS?
WPEDS size combination 155–250 delivers up to 9,066 Nm — identical to WPEDA since the worm gear internals and the dual-stage design are the same. S-type input orientation affects only the motor mounting direction, not the torque capacity.
▶ Does the WPEDS require a motor support bracket for overhead mounting?
For size combinations 135–200 and 155–250 with heavier motors, a support bracket is recommended to prevent bending stress on the S-type IEC flange joint under sustained loads. Smaller size combinations are designed for cantilevered motor mounting within IEC specifications.
▶ What lubricant volume does each WPEDS chamber require?
Each gear chamber requires separate oil filling. Use the WPEDS lubrication table — the S-type orientation modifies the first-stage chamber oil volume relative to A-type. Both chambers use N220–N320 (below 40°C ambient) or N320–N460 (above 40°C). First oil change at 100 hours, then every 2,500 hours.
